AMMAN: Jordan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi Monday met with his British counterpart James Cleverly to discuss ways of boosting cooperation between the two nations.
They spoke of their mutual desire to broaden cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, investment, tourism, and the military, as well as continuing their nations’ efforts to resolve regional conflicts and ensure security and stability.
The ministers also discussed efforts to stop the escalation of the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories as well as progress toward achieving a just and enduring peace, according to Arab News.
Safadi reaffirmed that the only way to achieve peace in the region was through a two-state solution, stressing the necessity of halting illegal Israeli actions that seriously affected the prospects of such an eventuality.
Safadi and Cleverly spoke of efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria and find the required conditions for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
Jordan and Syrian refugees
Safadi highlighted the challenges his country faces for Syrian refugees due to decreasing international aid, and said that the refugees’ burden was a worldwide obligation, not only the host nations’ responsibility.
He lauded his British counterpart for the United Kingdom’s ongoing support for the development projects in Jordan and help in response to regional crises.
Cleverly also commended Jordan’s role as an important regional partner in ongoing efforts to strengthen peace, security, and stability.
