Jordan Tells US West Bank Violence Threatens Regional Stability

AMMAN: Jordan’s King Abdullah said on Sunday that increase in West Bank violence endangered regional stability. According to Reuters, the King told the visiting US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin that violence in the West Bank threatened regional stability. King Abdullah also asked him for assistance to fight a rising drug war along Jordan’s borders with Syria, Jordanian officials said.

Earlier, the US Defense Secretary arrived in Jordan at the start of a Middle East trip that will also take him to Egypt and Israel, US officials said.

The US Defense Secretary wrote on his Twitter before his visit that he would hold meeting with key leaders and “reaffirm Washington commitment to regional stability.”

The US Defense Department said ahead of the trip that talks would focus on the growing regional threats.

US officials said that in Israel, Lloyd Austin will also raise his concerns regarding a surge in violence in the West Bank.
