Israeli “Racist” Minister’s ‘no Palestinians’ Invective Sparks Arab World Outcry

CAIRO: Egypt, the Palestinian Authority, and Jordan on Monday denounced as “racist” a stirrer Israeli minister’s statement denying the existence of the Palestinians, with Jordan summoning Israel’s envoy for a rebuke.  Israel’s extremist finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, had already confronted global rebuke in early March following calling for a Palestinian town in the occupied West Bank to be “wiped out”,

Palestinian PM Mohammad Shtayyeh said on Monday the “inflammatory remarks” made by Israel’s Minister provided “definite evidence of the racist, extremist, Zionist ideology… of the incumbent Israeli government”.

Arab world, UN condemn Israeli “Racist” minister’s remarks

UN Secretary-General deputy spokesman dubbed Smotrich’s statement “completely unhelpful”, stressing the Palestinians “obviously” exists. The spokesman said that they continue to support Palestinians’ rights and to drive for a two-state solution,”.

According to AFP, the minister was speaking from a bookstand which contained a map of so-called Greater Israel, including the West Bank, occupied Golan Heights, blocked Gaza Strip and Jordan — the neighboring Arab nation that inked a peace agreement with Israel in 1994.

Egypt’s foreign ministry said in a statement that it condemned the ” unacceptable and inflammatory ” as well as “racist” statement.

Jordan has summoned the Israeli envoy to protest over the behavior of Israel’s finance minister who spoke at a platform that had an Israeli flag with extended borders that incorporated the Jordan and the Palestinian territories, Reuter reported on Monday.

Earlier, Jordan condemned the ultra-nationalist Israeli Finance Minister’s move adding it was a provocative move by a “racist and extremist” minister that violated Jordan’s peace treaty with Israel and international norms.
