AMMAN: Jordan has strongly condemned Israel’s announcement to build 1,000 new settler houses in the occupied West Bank, terming it the latest outrage to Palestinian people amid a spiral of grave violence, Arab media reported on Wednesday.
Jordan Strongly Condemns Israeli Aggression in Occupied West Bank
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the announcement plan a day following two Palestinian gunmen killed 4 people near the unlawful settlement of Eli, in what Hamas said was retaliation for attacks by Israeli troops and settler assaults on Palestinians.
According to the Jordan News Agency, Amman condemned the settler assaults and asked Israel’s government to stop the violence “immediately”.
Jordan’s Ministry for foreign affairs spokesperson, Sinan Majali, said the new settlement plan was a further incitement that “weakens prospects for realizing the two-state solution.
“Continuous violations and assaults in the occupied Palestinian territories proclaimer further escalation,” he added. “The world should also take steps to stop further violence.” As per media reports, Israel deployed additional troops across the occupied West Bank in response to increasing threats after the violence in Eli and Jenin.
