AMMAN: Jordan’s King Abdullah met with Foreign Minister of Spain Jose Manuel Albares on Wednesday to discuss developments in Gaza and reaching an immediate ceasefire in the besieged enclave.
During the meeting in Amman, King Abdullah stressed the need to pause the conflict in Gaza, protect civilians and ensure the flow of humanitarian assistance. Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah was also present on the occasion.
King Abdullah praised the support of Spain for a Gaza ceasefire and its backing of UNRWA funding, alongside Madrid’s commitment to the two-state solution
The Spanish foreign minister reiterated his country’s dedication to assisting humanitarian needs in Gaza and supporting aid delivery.
King Abdullah also empathized the necessity for a political framework for a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, ensuring an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Meanwhile the Spanish foreign minister Albares also met the Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
The two sides signed a memorandum on enhanced bilateral ties.
Later at a press conference, Safadi said during a meeting with Spanish foreign minister he discussed mechanisms for building on the strategic partnership and friendship and to coordinate efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
He said Spain has a major role in the EU and can help to achieve peace in the region. Safadi thanked Albares for Spain’s support for achieving peace and fulfilling the rights of the Palestinian people.
Albares expressing his views said Jordan and Palestine are Spain’s biggest partners in humanitarian cooperation. He said Jordan is hosting approximately 2.5 million Palestinian refugees, so the UN agency for Palestinians refugees UNRWA must reach Jordan.
