RIYADH: The Jood Eskan charity campaign, launched by King Salman at the start of Ramadan, has surpassed its set goal of raising SR1.5 billion (almost $400 million) to provide housing for families in need.
The campaign was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the most successful electronic charity drive in history.
The campaign was initiated by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with a donation of SR150 million. It saw the participation of major corporations such as Al-Rajhi Bank, STC Group, MBC, and Al-Arabiya News Channel, among others.
Jood Eskan, a Saudi crowdfunding platform for home ownership, was launched in 2019 by Sakan, a non-profit arm of the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing.
The Jood Eskan campaign, a Saudi crowd funding platform for home ownership launched in 2019, has successfully provided housing to 26,250 individuals from 5,250 families throughout the Kingdom, thanks to donations and services offered to eligible families.
The campaign, titled Evergreen Stock, utilized an IPO simulation that targeted prominent Saudi Arabian corporations, institutions, and individuals, offering 100 million stocks at SR10 per share to encourage goodwill and charitable contributions.
Ramadan campaign surpasses target
This year’s Ramadan campaign raised over SR1.5 billion, surpassing its target, and serves as a reminder to the Kingdom that investing in the welfare of communities is the best investment people and businesses can make.
Saudi Vision 2030 aims to increase the national home-ownership rate from 47% in 2016 to 70% by 2030, and campaigns such as Jood Eskan are critical in achieving this goal. According to Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Majed bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, the funds raised during the campaign will support approximately 3,500 families in need.
