ISLAMABAD: While his acting career may have taken a hit in Hollywood following assault allegations and a very public trial, Pirates actor Johnny Depp is back at Cannes Film Festival.
Depp’s depiction of King Louis XV in the period drama Jeanne du Barry started the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday.
Festival director Thierry Fremaux told journalists that he was not interested in Johnny Depp’s trial but only in him as the actor.
The famous French filmmaker behind Jeanne du Barry also reiterated that Johnny Depp’s reputation did not dissuade her from casting him for the role.
Maïwenn explained that Depp lost the first trial, but he won the second. She said that we could say it was one person’s word against another. I did not feel that I had the right to judge.
Depp’s Jeanne du Barry has reportedly yet to secure distribution in the US. Amid concerns about how his image might impact the movie, the director Maiwenn was grappling with a lawsuit if he won.
