WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden on Thursday will address a press conference first since his debate disaster against Donald Trump.
The whole world is looking at 81-year-old at a NATO summit as he tries to calm down the growing calls from his Democratic party to quit the election bid over his age and health.
The White House has termed it a “big boy” press conference. However, according to reports, Biden will be under immense pressure to show he can handle the pressure.
The Press Conference in Washington DC could turn the trickle of Democrats who have asked Biden to withdraw from his 2024 election bid.
Hollywood actor and supporter George Clooney on Wednesday called on Biden not to stand for the elections. Party heavyweight and former House speaker Nancy Pelosi said Biden should make a decision after the NATO summit.
So far eight House Democrats have openly urged Biden who beat Trump in 2020 not to stand again.
Biden has given fewer news conferences than his predecessors. His recent appearances have been joint appearances with leaders of foreign states restricted to two questions each.
Press Secretary of the White House Karine Jean-Pierre has repeatedly promised that Thursday’s “big boy press conference” will feature multiple questions.
It is pertinent to mention that a poor performance will add fuel to the flames of the concerns about Biden’s age and health that were raised when he appeared listless and incoherent against Republican Trump, 78.
Earlier, Clooney warned that Biden would lose the presidential poll and Democrats would also lose both chambers of Congress. Biden has insisted that he is committed to running for re-election in November.
Vice President Kamala Harris could be the frontrunner to replace Biden if he steps aside.
