Conservative Jordan, who was also endorsed by former President Donald Trump, for a second straight day fell short of the 217 votes required to fill the vacant post of the US House of Representatives, as 22 Republican lawmakers and all 212 Democrat members of the House voted against him.  After the defeat, he announced that he would not make another attempt until Thursday.

Earlier on October, 4 the US House of Representatives voted to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker. The result came following a nail-biting, but lengthy, roll call that needed every lawmaker to put their choice on the record. As per media reports some 216 members- including 8 Republicans – voted to remove Kevin McCarthy from the Speaker’s chair. This was a major win for the rebellious faction of hardliner Republicans led by Matt Gaetz. It was the first removal of a speaker in the US House of Representatives 234-year history and was also backed by several right-wing Republicans.
