BEIJING: Moin ul Haque, Pakistan Ambassador to China, said on Thursday that the joint production of JF-17 Thunder Aircraft at Chengdu Aircraft Industries Corporation (CAIC) has become a symbol of the special ties between Pakistan and China.
During a meeting with the Secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Sichuan Provincial Committee Wang Xiaohui, the ambassador highlighted the friendship and importance of bilateral relations between Pakistan and China which were based on practical cooperation, political trust, and strategic partnership.
The envoy commended the enduring relationship between Pakistan and Sichuan which had grown stronger over the years, particularly after the opening of Pakistan’s Consulate-General in Chengdu in 2007.
He also extended his gratitude to the leadership and the public of Sichuan province for their generous and timely support to Pakistan during the Covid-19 pandemic and after the recent devastating floods in Pakistan.
Many companies from Sichuan were investing in Pakistan in the agriculture and energy sectors. The educational and cultural ties were also strengthening with more than 1,000 students enrolled in different universities in Sichuan.
The envoy while recalling the consensus reached during the recent meetings of the leaders of both sides, requested the help of the Party Secretary for strengthening investment, developmental and trade linkages through practical and focused cooperation. He suggested using the already-existing sister province relationship between Punjab and Sichuan for the purpose.
Wang reaffirms China-Pakistan ties
Wang reaffirmed the importance of China-Pakistan ties and the lasting partnership between Sichuan and Pakistan. He also recalled Pakistan’s help during the earthquake in Sichuan in 2008.
He briefed the envoy on the robust financial growth of Sichuan, and its tourism potential, especially as the habitat of a large population of pandas in the cities of Dujiangyan and Chengdu.
Highlighting the respective strengths of the two sister provinces of Punjab and Sichuan, he agreed to enhance practical cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, Information Technology and industrialization.
Ambassador Haque invited Wang with a delegation to Pakistan for exploring new investment opportunities. –APP
