WASHINTON: Tens of Jewish demonstrators on Thursday blocked a highway in Los Angeles, demanding end to the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

According to western media reports the demonstrators sat on the ground side-by-side in the middle of the highway and blocked the traffic.

The protest led to a traffic jam in a city that already suffers from the highest level of bottlenecks in normal times.

The event was organized by ‘If Not Now’, a group of American Jews seeking to end the US support for the Israeli regime.

The protestors wore black shirts reading: “Not in our names.. Jews say cease fire now.”

The activists in a post on social media said that as Jews, they cannot stay still while Gaza people are starving and slain in the name of Jews.

According to health authorities in Gaza at least 18,608 Palestinians have been killed and 50,594 wounded in the Israeli strikes since then.

The Israeli raids have almost destroyed entire neighborhoods in northern Gaza. Israeli ground troops have been facing heavy resistance from Hamas fighters in the area.

According to the UN some 1.87 million Palestinians, over 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have left their homes.
