PESHAWAR: The preparations for Jashn-e-Azadi (Independence Day) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reached their pinnacle on Saturday, with national flags adorning every corner. Bazaars and markets in Peshawar were inundated with festive displays of national flags, posters, and other decorative items.

Peshawar’s historic bazaars, including Qissa Khwani, Karimpura, Mohalla Jhangi, Meena Bazaar, Hashtnagri, Liaquat, Faqirabad, and more, were bedecked with the patriotic green and white colors of the national flag for the celebration of Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day on August 14.

Much like other provinces in Pakistan, the spirit of Jashn-e-Azadi (Independence Day) has swept through KP, even in the seven merged tribal districts of the province. People of all ages joined in decorating their homes, shops, and vehicles with national flags, expressing their profound love for their homeland.

The youth, in particular, exhibited exceptional enthusiasm, purchasing national flags, banners, stickers, models of historical buildings, and portraits of heroes from the Independence Movement. The surge in patriotism also led them to adorn their vehicles with the iconic green and white colours.

Government buildings across Peshawar proudly flew the national flag, while residents creatively decorated their vehicles with green and white to mark Independence Day with the utmost respect.

Qissa Khwani, a bazaar with a rich history spanning about 2,500 years, radiated the green and white spirit. The bustling markets and shops were abuzz with activity.

Sidra Bibi, a resident of Wapda Town, shared her childhood tradition of visiting Peshawar with her father to have her face painted with the national flag’s colours, making her stand out on Independence Day. She expressed her joy after purchasing a multitude of badges, stickers, and posters for family members, friends, and schoolmates.

Anticipating Independence Day celebrations, Sidra stated that the occasion reinforces patriotism. She eagerly awaited the flag hoisting ceremony at Peshawar, accompanied by the national anthem played by police bands on August 14.
