WASHINGTON: Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is set to make a historic address to a joint meeting of the US Congress on April 11, as announced by congressional leaders on Monday.
This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to peace, prosperity, and the promotion of democracy and stability on the global stage.
Scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden at the White House on April 10, Kishida will also be honored as the guest of honor at a prestigious state dinner hosted at the executive mansion.
However, the visit comes amid challenges for both leaders. President Biden faces a tough road to re-election in November amid low public approval ratings, while Prime Minister Kishida grapples with the aftermath of a fundraising scandal, economic woes, and the recent impact of a significant earthquake in January.
