ISLAMABAD: Japan’s Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi on Friday telephoned Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and urged both Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and allow dialogue and diplomacy to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The Japanese foreign minister, Takeshi, expresses deep concern over the evolving situation and urges restraint, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

During the Call, Ishaq Dar briefed the Japanese Foreign Minister on the regional situation due to India’s illegal and unprovoked attacks on multiple cities across Pakistan that resulted in the martyrdom of innocent civilians, including women, children, and the elderly.

He added that Pakistan had demonstrated restraint in the face of these violations of international law and the UN Charter that threatened regional peace and security.

He said the Government of Pakistan remained firmly committed to defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Pakistan has claimed that its armed forces shot down five Indian fighter jets, destroyed a brigade headquarters, and several military posts.

Pakistan’s armed forces also shot down and destroyed 77 Indian drones. According to security sources, 29 Indian drones were shot down till last evening, while another 48 drones have been destroyed since last night.

The escalation began following the April 22 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam area, killing 26 people.

India, without investigation or presenting any evidence, implied “cross-border linkages” of the attackers. Pakistan has firmly rejected the claim and called for a neutral and transparent international probe.
