TOKYO: Japan announced a fresh round of sanctions targeting individuals and a company associated with the Gaza-based Hamas group, as reported by the Japanese foreign ministry on Tuesday.
These sanctions involve the freezing of assets belonging to those who have provided financial support to the Hamas group and align with recent sanctions introduced by the United States government earlier this month.
The United Nations has also issued a warning about the potential risks in Syria and the potential spillover of conflicts involving Israel and Hamas.
Notably, these sanctions mark the first time Japan has imposed measures against the Hamas group since their violent actions on October 7, which Israeli authorities claim resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 people. Among the individuals newly designated as terrorists by Japan are Hamas group operatives Muhammad Ahmad ‘Abd Al-Dayim Nasrallah and Ayman Nofal.
