ISLAMABAD: Japan has announced JPY794 million (about $5.3 million) to help in the reconstruction of educational facilities in flood-hit areas in Sindh. In this regard, a signing ceremony was held at the Economic Affairs Division on Wednesday.
The grant from Japan is aimed at addressing the educational infrastructure challenges caused by last year’s devastating floods and heavy monsoon rains in Sindh. A total of nine fully damaged School buildings would be reconstructed in six districts of the province.
Under the grant, reconstruction of damaged schools’ buildings would help to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students, with a particular focus on enhancing the access of girls to education.
The Notes of the project were inked and exchanged by Secretary of Economic Affairs (EAD) Division Dr. Kazim Niaz and Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan WADA Mitsuhiro, on behalf of their respective governments. The Grant Agreement was inked by Joint Secretary EAD Saeed Ashraf Siddiqi and Chief Representative Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Yasutimsu Kinoshita.

Dr. Kazim Niaz commended the government and the people of Japan for their valuable support with the assurance of extending all required facilitation for more meaningful cooperation between the two countries.
While WADA Mitsuhiro assured his commitment to work closely with the government of Pakistan to further strengthen the friendly relations and bilateral cooperation.
