ISLAMABAD: November 6 marks a day of solemn reflection for Kashmiris around the world, as they observe Jammu Martyrs’ Day, commemorating the tragic events of November 1947.
Tens of thousands of Muslims perished during their migration to Pakistan from Jammu in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, victims of violence at the hands of the Indian army, Dogra forces, and Hindutva extremists.
A recent analytical report from Kashmir Media Service highlights the significance of this day, noting that the massacre in Jammu in 1947 remains one of the darkest and most devastating chapters in Kashmir’s history. The scars of this gruesome event are still fresh in the collective memory of Kashmiris.
The report underscores that the Jammu massacre of 1947 aimed to alter the demography of the region, transforming the Muslim-majority area into a minority. This brutal massacre, orchestrated by Dogra soldiers, Indian troops, and Hindutva RSS and Jansang forces, sought to fundamentally change the demographics of Jammu.
The report emphasizes that the sacrifices of Jammu Muslims, etched in golden letters in Kashmir’s history, will never be forgotten. It labels the Jammu massacre as an enduring blot on the face of so-called Indian secularism.
Furthermore, the report acknowledges the ongoing chain of sacrifices that commenced in Jammu in 1947 and persists to this day in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), where over four hundred thousand Kashmiris have laid down their lives in pursuit of self-determination. The report warns of attempts by Hindutva forces to replicate the 1947 Jammu massacre in Kashmir, underscoring the continued resilience and determination of the Kashmiri people to resist Indian brutalities.
The report calls upon international human rights organizations, including the United Nations, to play an active role in ending the ongoing genocide of Kashmiris by Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It asserts that the people of Kashmir remain steadfast in their quest for freedom, believing that the dawn of freedom will eventually break.
