ISLAMABAD: The Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE) has had a busy few months, with its Chairman, Shahid Mahmood Khokhar, directing the management of concerned newspapers to ensure payment of outstanding salaries of their employees. Since October 2022, the ITNE has received 3524 and decided on 71 cases and ensured monetary relief worth Rupees 688128 for newspapers.

The ITNE regularly hears cases related to the pending salaries of media workers, with priority given to the cases of deceased media workers. The Chairman emphasized that all cases are being heard on a priority basis to ensure justice. However, the cases of deceased employees are being given top priority.

The Chairman also stated that the tribunal would review the cases in which payment orders had been issued to the concerned newspapers. This review process is necessary to ensure that the newspapers are fulfilling their obligation to pay outstanding salaries.

ITNE performance over last few months

The ITNE’s performance has been commendable, especially in light of the ongoing skyrocketing inflation and its impact on the media industry. The tribunal’s efforts have provided much-needed relief to newspaper employees who have been struggling to make ends meet due to delayed salaries.

The Chairman’s directive to ensure payment of outstanding salaries is a significant step towards improving the working conditions of media workers in Pakistan. It is hoped that the concerned newspapers will comply with the directive and take the necessary steps to address the issue of delayed salaries.

The ITNE’s performance over the last few months has been impressive, with the tribunal ensuring monetary relief and prioritizing the cases of deceased media workers. The Chairman’s efforts to review cases where payment orders have been issued to newspapers is also a welcome step. The ITNE’s work is crucial in ensuring that media workers receive fair compensation for their services.
