ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Technology (IT) has identified 19 more websites involved in spreading false rumours about institutions and prominent personalities, and directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take strict action against them.

As the trend of social media forgery and negative propaganda could not stopped in the country, the ministry asked PTA to block the websites spreading false propaganda immediately.

Directive sent to the PTA said that the number of websites involved false propaganda activities has increased to 97.

80 websites

The IT ministry had earlier sent a letter recommending the closure of 80 websites. However, despite the identification of the websites by the IT Ministry, they’ve not been blocked yet.
