ISLAMABAD: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) is set to inaugurate its ‘ASEAN Corner’ in a formal inauguration ceremony on Monday, attended by the Foreign Minister of Pakistan and ASEAN Envoys. This significant initiative is aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and its pivotal role in the region and the world.
The inauguration of the ‘ASEAN Corner’ at ISSI is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the partnership between Pakistan and ASEAN. Despite geographical distances, Pakistan and ASEAN have cultivated a robust relationship over the years, rooted in economic cooperation and regional stability.
Pakistan’s strategic location as a bridge between South Asia and the Middle East complements ASEAN’s focus on trade and connectivity across diverse regions. Their collaboration spans various sectors, including industry, investment, agriculture, education, science and technology, tourism, and counterterrorism efforts, demonstrating their joint commitment to economic development and regional security.
Agreement Between ISSI and ASEAN Committee in Islamabad
The establishment of the ‘ASEAN Corner’ follows an agreement between ISSI and the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI) during their structured interaction in January 2023. It is envisioned as a hub of knowledge, housing print and electronic resources that will enable researchers, academics, scholars, and practitioners to explore Southeast Asia’s political, economic, and security dynamics.
