TEL AVIV: Israeli strikes on Sunday killed 18 Palestinians in Gaza, including four who were taking shelter in a camp for displaced Palestinians inside a hospital complex, Western media reported.
Regional tensions have increased after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday, which came a day after an Israeli strike in Beirut killed Fuad Shukr, a senior military commander from Hezbollah.
Iran and Hamas have both accused Israel of carrying out the assassination of Haniyeh and have vowed to retaliate. Israel has not claimed responsibility for the attack nor denied it.
The Health Ministry in Gaza reported on Sunday that the Israeli military has killed at least 39,600 Palestinians, mostly women and children in the besieged Palestinian enclave and injured 91,398.
Heavy airstrikes and ground operations have caused widespread damage and displaced the vast majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million people.
In Gaza, an Israeli strike targeted a tent camp housing displaced Palestinians in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, killing four people, including one woman, and wounding others, Gaza’s Health Ministry said.
The hospital in Deir Al-Balah is the main medical facility functional in central Gaza, and thousands of people have taken shelter there in the war-ravaged territory. According to the hospital, a separate strike on a home near Deir Al-Balah killed a girl and her parents.
Another strike destroyed a house in northern Gaza, killing at least eight people, including three children. While another three people were killed in a strike on a vehicle in Gaza City, according to the Civil Defense.

An Israeli strike on a school-turned-shelter in Gaza on Saturday killed at least 16 people and injured another 21, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry over 590 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the occupied West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza.
