GAZA CITY, Palestine: Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip killed eight people, including a child, on Sunday, according to emergency services and local hospitals.

Five people were killed in Khan Yunis and three in Gaza City, said a statement from the Palestinian territory’s civil defence service.

Local hospitals said they had received the bodies as well as several people wounded.

“Occupation aircraft targeted several on-duty police officers” in Khan Yunis, Gaza’s interior ministry said.

Contacted for comment, the Israeli army told AFP it had targeted a fighter in southern Gaza and several others in the north. The military was examining the results of the strikes, it added.

On Saturday, at least four Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza, and two girls died of burns from a fire in a tent sheltering displaced people, medical sources told the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

In Gaza City, a Palestinian died in the morning of wounds from an earlier Israeli attack on the Tel al-Hawa neighbourhood, in the southwest of the city.

In the evening, Wael Musallam died of injuries from a recent Israeli drone strike near al-Wehda Tower, in the west of the city.

An Israeli drone struck a house in al-Shati refugee camp, wounding several people, one of them seriously.

In central Gaza, a Palestinian was killed in the morning by an Israeli drone strike near the electricity company, northwest of Nuseirat refugee camp.

Israeli gunfire wounded four people in al-Maghazi refugee camp.

Israeli artillery also heavily shelled eastern Gaza City and areas west of Beit Lahia on Saturday, and continued shelling the eastern parts of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

In the south, Israeli military vehicles opened heavy fire northeast of Khan Younis and toward displacement tents in al-Mawasi.

Israel’s offensive in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas has left much of the Palestinian territory in ruins and killed more than 74,500 people, according to Gaza’s health ministry, whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations.

A ceasefire took effect in October 2025 but more than 1,500 people have been killed in Gaza since that time.
