ISLAMABAD: Gaza’s civil defence agency has said that 15 Palestinians, including 10 from the same family, had been killed in two overnight Israeli strikes.
AFP cited civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal as saying, “Our crews recovered the bodies of 10 martyrs and a large number of injured from the house of the Baraka family and the neighbouring houses targeted by the Israeli occupation forces in the Bani Suhaila area east of Khan Yunis,” in the southern Gaza Strip.
Aerial bombardments
Bassal later announced that a separate strike hit two houses in northern Gaza’s Tal al-Zaatar, where crews had “recovered the bodies of five people,” according to AFP.
The Israeli military has intensified its aerial bombardments and expanded its ground operations in the Gaza Strip since it resumed its offensive in the besieged Palestinian territory on March 18.
On Thursday, the civil defence agency reported the deaths of at least 40 residents in Israeli strikes, most of them in camps for displaced civilians, as Israel pressed its offensive.
Worst humanitarian failure
Al-Jazeera cited a group of 12 aid agencies as saying Gaza is “one of the worst humanitarian failures of our generation”.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said that at least 51,065 Palestinians have been confirmed dead and 116,505 injured in Israel’s war on Gaza since it began 18 months ago.
The Gaza Government Media Office has updated its death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead, according to Al-Jazeera.
