ISLAMABAD: Iranian media said that a hospital in the country’s west suffered serious damage after an Israeli strike in the area on Monday.

AFP cited Iranian media as saying, “Following the Zionist criminal regime’s attack on a nearby workshop in Kermanshah city, Farabi Hospital also suffered serious damage”.

Iranian News Agency carried a video of the hospital showing shattered glass, collapsed ceilings, and extensive damage in patient rooms, according to AFP.

IRNA news agency also reported that Israel launched attacks on civilians and various infrastructures in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Monday.

A series of attacks

Iranian media reported a new Israeli strike on western Iran Monday, the latest in a series of attacks since fighting began four days ago.

“The Zionist regime has brutally attacked the fire department building at the Musiyan municipality” in the western province of Ilam, Iranian media reported, publishing a video of smoke rising from the site.

Iran unleashed a barrage of missile strikes on Israeli cities early Monday, after Israel struck military targets inside Iran, with both sides threatening further devastation.

Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service said five people had been killed and 92 injured following the latest Iranian attack.

Raising international alarm

AFP images showed gutted residential buildings in Tel Aviv and fires smouldering outside the coastal city of Haifa, after Israel’s army warned people to take cover from incoming Iranian missiles.

In Jerusalem, AFP reported that its journalist heard a loud blast, while footage showed Israeli air defences lighting up the night sky.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, in a statement cited by the official IRNA news agency, said Monday they had “successfully” struck Israel and vowed “effective, targeted and more devastating operations” to come.

Both sides have traded heavy fire in recent days, raising international alarm over the potential for a broader regional conflict.

Trump and China

United States President Donald Trump has urged the foes to “make a deal”, but told reporters Sunday that “sometimes they have to fight it out” first.

China urged Iran and Israel to “immediately” take steps to reduce tensions on Monday after Tehran unleashed a barrage of missile strikes on Israeli cities and Israel struck military targets deep inside Iran.

“We urge all parties to immediately take measures to cool down the tensions, prevent the region from falling into greater turmoil, and create conditions for returning to the right track of resolving issues through dialogue and negotiations,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said.
