Israeli Strike Kills Al Jazeera’s Journalist in Gaza

GAZA: Israeli strike on Gaza’s Khan Younis has killed Al Jazeera’s Samer Abudaqa following medical teams were barred by Israeli troops from immediately reaching him, Arab media reported on Friday. Tributes pour in for the journalist, father of four who is remembered as a hardworking colleague, kind and friend.

In a statement, Al Jazeera strongly condemned Israeli troops’ killing of Samer Abudaqa. Al Jazeera Media Network denounces in the strongest terms the Israeli drone assault on a Gaza school that resulted in the killing of journalist Samer Abudaqa.

In statement Al Jazeera said that the Network holds Israel responsible for systematically targeting and killing Al Jazeera team members and their families. It maintained that in today’s attack in Khan Younis, Israeli fired missiles at a school where civilian people sought shelter, resulting in indiscriminate casualties. After Samer’s injury, he was left to bleed to death for over five hours, as Israeli army prevented ambulances and rescue workers from reaching the journalist, refuting the much-needed emergency medical treatment, it added. The Statement further said that Al Jazeera Media Network extended its sincere condolences to the family of journalist in Gaza and in Belgium of the late Samer Abudaqa. More than 90 journalists were killed during the ongoing war in Gaza.

Al Jazeera’s Journalist Killed in Gaza

Al Jazeera asked the world, media freedom organizations, and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take immediate action to hold Israel’s government and army accountable for these actions of carnage and crimes against humanity.

Jordan also condemned Israel’s ‘targeting’ of Al Jazeera’s journalist in the Gaza Strip and called on the world to work to end Israeli abuses against Palestinian people and ensure the protection of journalists.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has also called for an independent probe into the assault that also wounded Dahdouh, Al Jazeera’s Gaza bureau chief. The CPJ called on world to independently probe the attack and hold those responsible to answer.
