GAZA CITY: Gaza’s civil defense agency has said that an Israeli airstrike near Jabalia in the territory’s north killed around 33 people at a refugee camp overnight from Friday to Saturday.
The civil defense agency spokesperson Mahmud Bassal has announced “33 deaths and dozens of injured,” while a health source at the Al-Awda hospital said that more than 70 people were wounded in the Israeli strike.
Hamas on Friday confirmed the death of its newly appointed chief, Yahya Sinwar, in yesterday’s Israeli attack.
In a video statement, Hamas said that Sinwar’s death will “build strength,” adding that they will not release hostages until the Gaza war ends and Israeli forces withdraw from the besieged and bombarded territory, senior Hamas official Khalil Hayya says.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has launched a brutal bombardment campaign in Gaza killing more than 42,438 Palestinians, mostly women and children, the territory’s health ministry added. The ministry also reported that more than 99,246 people have been wounded in Gaza since the conflict began.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with the UN and other relief organizations warning of severe food shortages. A UN-backed assessment released on Thursday stated that around 345,000 Gazans could face “catastrophic” hunger this winter due to reduced aid deliveries.
According to media reports, Lebanon’s Hezbollah group said on Friday that it targeted the Israeli city of Haifa and surrounding northern regions with rockets, dedicating one of the strikes to its slain leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
