LONDON: Israel’s military soldiers are increasingly denying to return to reserves service in protest at the country’s far-right government, Western media reported on Tuesday.  Reservists are called in to serve for as many as two months in a year, reports said.

Israel’s far-right government

Several reservist pilots in Israel’s said that they would not join training on Sunday, saying they will not work for a “dictatorial regime,” The Guardian reported. Security authorities are reportedly expressed concern that their refusal may lead to disobedience within the ranks of the serving military.

Former F-15 jet navigator Omer Denk, told the Guardian that this is not regarding policy or politics but this is about a leadership crisis that wants to destroy democracy in the country. He added that thousands of people across Israel are holding protest demonstrations against the government.

Critics including businessmen and ex-military officials say Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing Israel toward authoritarian rule. Anti-government protest demonstrations in Israel turned violent on Wednesday when police fired stun grenades at protestors in Tel Aviv. PM Benjamin Netanyahu Netanyahu on Monday called the military soldiers’ denial to report for duty unacceptable, The Guardian added.
