JERUSALEM: Israeli forces shot and wounded seven people during a raid on Tuesday in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said. The Israeli army confirmed the operation was underway but gave no further details.

The ministry reported that six people with minor injuries from live fire were taken to Jenin governmental hospital, while another person shot was admitted to a nearby hospital after the raid in the northern West Bank city.

Jenin is known as a hotbed for Palestinian armed groups, and frequent incursions by Israeli forces often lead to clashes with local youth or militants. This year alone, at least 25 Palestinians have been killed in the city, while there have been no Israeli fatalities.

Violence in West Bank

The latest raid comes amid an increase in violence in Israel and the West Bank region, which Israel has occupied since the 1967 war.

According to a count based on Israeli and Palestinian official sources, the conflict has claimed the lives of at least 96 Palestinian nationals, 19 Israelis, one Ukrainian, and one Italian.

The figures include both combatants and civilians, including minors, on the Palestinian side, and mostly civilians, including children, and three members of the Arab minority on the Israeli side.

There has been no immediate confirmation of the identity of those wounded in Jenin. The raid is likely to further inflame tensions in the region, where violence has been escalating in recent months.

The Palestinian Authority has condemned the raid, calling it a violation of international law and an attack on the Palestinian people.
