BEIRUT: A deadly Israeli drone strike targeted a car outside the southern Lebanese city of Tyre on Wednesday, killing a member of a Palestinian resistance group Hamas. Sources from Hamas told Reuters that the victim, identified as Hadi Mustafa, was not a senior figure within the Palestinian resistance group.
The strike, carried out by what witnesses identified as an Israeli drone, drew attention as the unmanned aerial vehicle lingered above the scene for several minutes following the attack. The official National News Agency reported that the strike resulted in the death of at least one person, with three others sustaining injuries.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of devastation near the Palestinian refugee camp of Rashidiyeh, situated close to Tyre, as rescue workers scrambled to collect human remains amidst the charred wreckage of the targeted vehicle.
This incident marks another escalation in tensions between Israel and Lebanon, exacerbated by recent retaliatory strikes from the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. In response to Israeli attacks, Hezbollah claimed to have launched “more than 100 Katyusha rockets” at two military bases in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The situation has rapidly deteriorated since the outbreak of hostilities, with casualties mounting. In Lebanon, at least 320 persons, including Hezbollah fighters and civilians, have lost their lives, according to an AFP tally. Meanwhile, in Israel, the toll stands at ten soldiers and seven civilians killed in cross-border conflicts.
