WASHINGTON, USA: The Pentagon said on Saturday that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who is now in Gaza, will be visiting Washington shortly to hold talks with his US counterpart.
President Joe Biden’s administration advocates for a ceasefire, supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but opposed by some far-right allies. Hamas, the Palestinian group, offered counter-proposals but stopped short of accepting the plan.
Following a call with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Gallant accepted an invitation to the Pentagon to further discuss Middle East security developments. The date of the visit is pending. The aim is to address ongoing security concerns in the region, stated Pentagon press secretary Major General Patrick Ryder on social media.
