TEL AVIV, Israel: The Israeli army announced responsibility for airstrikes in Gaza City that resulted in the deaths of family members of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, including his sister.

The airstrikes targeted buildings in the Beach refugee camp and the Al-Daraj neighborhood, which the Israeli military claimed were used by Hamas.

According to the Israeli military, the airstrikes aimed at Hamas members involved in the October 7 attack on Israeli locations and those holding Israeli captives in Gaza. The statement emphasized the use of “precision munition” based on intelligence activity. The Israeli Army Radio confirmed that the airstrike killed Haniyeh’s family members.

The Palestinian Civil Defence reported that bodies of 13 people, killed in Israeli airstrikes on two schools used as shelters and a home in Gaza City, have been recovered. The ongoing conflict has led to widespread destruction in Gaza, with local health authorities reporting over 37,600 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, and nearly 86,100 injuries.

Despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel’s offensive continues, drawing international condemnation. The International Court of Justice has accused Israel of genocide and ordered it to halt operations in Rafah, where over 1 million Palestinians sought refuge before the city was invaded on May 6.
