NEW YORK: The Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, was ejected from the General Assembly Hall during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. He took this step in protest of the speech delivered by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Ambassador Erdan’s act of defiance included holding up a picture of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman who tragically lost her life in police custody a year ago.

Following his exit from the assembly hall, UN security personnel briefly detained Ambassador Erdan. The Israeli ambassador had raised a sign bearing the words “Iranian women deserve freedom now” as President Raisi started his address.

Ambassador Erdan’s critique extended to a post on social media platform X, where he expressed his support for the Iranian people. “I left the hall to make it clear that the State of Israel stands by the Iranian people,” Erdan stated.
