TEL AVIV: The Israeli military said on Tuesday that it had conducted airstrikes on around 10 Hezbollah targets across seven areas in southern Lebanon overnight, killing one Hezbollah fighter. The military stated that these strikes targeted Hezbollah’s weapons storage facilities, infrastructure, military structures, and rocket launchers.

The Israeli offensive followed a rocket attack on Saturday that struck a Druze town in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, killing 12 persons.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a visit to the town of Majdal Shams on Monday, had vowed a “severe response” to the attack. Israel claims that the rocket was launched by Hezbollah. However, Hezbollah has denied responsibility for the rocket but has admitted to launching multiple rockets towards Israel on the same day.

Since October 7, when the recent hostilities began, Israeli forces and Hezbollah have engaged in frequent clashes along the border. According to Israeli military figures, the violence has resulted in the deaths of 46 persons.

On the Lebanese side, at least 527 people have been killed, mostly civilians. Hezbollah claims that its rocket attacks on Israel are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza where Israel has launched a relentless bombardment campaign since October 7.

The Gaza Health Ministry reported that Israel’s relentless bombardment campaign in Gaza since October 7 has killed at least 39,400 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
