TEL AVIV: An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in the Mezeh district of Damascus has killed three persons including Hassan Jaafar Qassir, the son-in-law of slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed that Qassir was among the victims of the strike, which targeted a structure reportedly used by Hezbollah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). A source close to Hezbollah stated, “Hassan Jaafar al-Qasir, the son-in-law of Hassan Nasrallah, was among two Lebanese victims of the Israeli raid.”
The three-storey building housed members of both Hezbollah and the IRGC. The attack occurred amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, with Israel having conducted operations against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon and Syria in recent weeks.
Earlier this week, Qassir’s brother, Mohammad Qassir, who led Hezbollah’s Unit 4400 responsible for arms transfers from Iran, was also killed in a strike in Beirut’s southern suburbs. The death of Hassan Jaafar Qassir intensifies the ongoing conflict, as Israel continues to target Hezbollah’s presence in the region.
