BEIRUT, Lebanon: An Israeli airstrike on Friday targeted the main road connecting Lebanon and Syria, effectively severing the critical international route, Lebanon reported.
The strike hit the Masnaa area, a key humanitarian crossing used by thousands of Lebanese fleeing the war, according to Lebanon’s Transport Minister, Ali Hamieh.
Israel has justified the attack, claiming Hezbollah uses the road to smuggle weapons from Syria, a nation allied with the militant group. The attack comes amidst rising tensions as Hezbollah and Israel are at war, further complicating the situation for the many Syrian refugees residing in Lebanon.
