DAMASCUS: The state news agency SANA has reported that an Israeli air attack on Damascus has left one Syrian soldier “seriously wounded and caused some material damage.”
According to an army source cited by SANA, Syrian air defences engaged Israeli military missiles launched at 1:05 am on Wednesday from the Golan Heights and “shot down some of them.”
SANA reported, “The Israeli military enemy carried out an aeronautical aggression from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights, hating several positions southwest of Syria’s capital Damascus.”
The military source didn’t provide information on the targets of the attack, saying only that the Israeli attack “severely wounded” a soldier and caused material damage.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitor that relies on a vast network of sources in Syria, said the Israeli air attack aimed at “weapons depots belonging to pro-Iran fighters and caused a fire.”
In the 12 months up to April, Israeli air attacks on Syria killed at least 44 citizens and wounded more than 50.
