JERUSALEM: An Israeli delegation will participate in the latest round of talks in Cairo aimed at reaching a truce in the Gaza conflict and a hostage release deal, an Israeli government official said on Sunday, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s stance during a weekly cabinet meeting, stating unequivocally that a ceasefire would not be agreed upon until the hostages held in Gaza are released. This assertion comes after six months of relentless Israeli bombardment in the Gaza region killing more than 33,175 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

The commencement of the latest round of truce talks in Egypt coincided with Netanyahu’s remarks, highlighting the urgency and gravity of the situation. Despite mounting international pressure, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would not yield to what he termed as “extreme” demands from Hamas.

The bloodiest ever war in the besieged Gaza Strip that broke out exactly six months ago has taken an appalling human toll. Six months since the outbreak of the bloodiest conflict in Gaza, the toll of human suffering continues to mount.
