BEIRUT, Lebanon: Lebanon’s health ministry has said that Israeli airstrikes in the country’s east killed one person and injured 20 others, hours following it said four people were killed in the south.

The attacks came more than 24 hours following Israel conducted similar raids deep inside east Lebanon and as tensions mounted in the wake of the Israeli killing of a senior Hezbollah commander.

In a statement, the health ministry said that Israeli enemy strikes on the Bekaa valley killed one person and injured 20 others. The statement added that one person was in critical condition while eight kids and a pregnant woman sustained minor injuries.

AFP cited a Hezbollah source as saying that several strikes struck east Lebanon near the city of Baalbek, including the village of Nabi Sheet, without giving more details. AFP reported that five children no older than 10, all from the same family, were among the injured.

The attacks around midnight came following similar strikes in the Bekaa region on Monday evening that Israel said hit Hezbollah weapons storage facilities in the region.
