TEHRAN: Israel on Monday attacked the headquarters of Iran’s state broadcaster, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Tehran, while live programmes were on air, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported.
After the attack, live programmes were briefly stopped at the IRIB News Network but returned to normal a few minutes afterwards, IRNA reported.

The strike took place shortly after Iranian media reported Israeli airstrikes in a civilian residential neighbourhood in Tehran.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was “on the road to victory,” claiming that its air force had established “control of the skies over Tehran,” according to a report by Al Jazeera.
The latest military escalation between the two arch-rivals began on Friday, when Israel launched strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, resulting in the deaths of several senior military commanders and scientists.
Tel Aviv has stated that the operation aims to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon—an allegation Iran has consistently denied, asserting that its uranium enrichment programme is intended solely for civilian purposes.
Israel threatens regional security
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of threatening security in the Middle East during a phone call with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday, his office said.
“The spiral of violence that began with Israel’s attacks on Iran has put the security of the entire region at risk,” Erdogan was quoted as saying.
His office said he told Putin that the “lawless attitude” of Netanyahu’s government “poses a clear threat to the international system”, adding that the Middle East “cannot tolerate a new war”.
