Palestinian Territories: Israel carried out air strikes on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday in response to rocket fire from the coastal enclave, as the military started withdrawing forces from Jenin in the occupied West Bank after a massive two-day operation in the area.
Twelve Palestinians and one Israeli soldier have been killed during the major operation by Israeli military in Jenin refugee camp, started early Monday.
Israel’s biggest military operation in years in the area, employed hundreds of forces as well as drone attacks and army bulldozers that ripped up streets, according to AFP.
Elsewhere, a car ramming and stabbing attack in Tel Aviv on Tuesday injured 7 people before the suspect was shot dead.
Israel’s major operation
The major Israeli army assault on Jenin camp had so far killed twelve Palestinians, according to Palestinian health ministry.
While an Israeli soldier was also killed in the operation, Israeli military said in a statement.
Early Wednesday, the military said it conducted air strikes on the Gaza Strip after it intercepted 5 rockets fired at Israeli territory.
The attack targeted a military site of the Palestinian group Hamas in northern Gaza but caused no human loss.
Late Tuesday, an Israeli military spokesman said that forces have started withdrawing from Jenin camp.
The Palestinian foreign ministry termed the escalation in violence as an open war against the people of Jenin.
Medical charity Doctors Without Borders (DWB) also condemned Israeli military for firing tear gas inside Khalil Suleiman Hospital in the city, calling it totally unacceptable.
Mai al-Kaila, the Palestinian health minister, even accused the military of shooting at Palestinians in a courtyard of the public hospital in Jenin.
He told reporters that Israel’s aggression reached its climax when citizens were shot at directly in the courtyard of Jenin hospital, injuring 3, two of them seriously.
