ISLAMABAD/JERUSALEM: The chief of Israel’s Mossad spy agency said that Iran has been seeking to expand the supply of weapons to Russia.
According to the Agence France-Presse, a warning from David Barnea came after the United States expressed alarm over a full-scale defense partnership between Moscow and Tehran, which invaded Ukraine last February.
Iran, in November, admitted it was sent a drones to Russia but insisted they were supplied before the invasion.
“We have warned against Iran’s future intentions, which they have tried to keep secret, to deepen and expand a supply of weapons to the Russia, to expand a uranium enrichment project, and to intensify their attacks against the Muslim countries in the region,” current Director of the Mossad Barnea had quoted as saying during a ceremony for the Jewish Hanukkah holiday.
On December 9, the US described an extensive tie between Iran and Russia involving weapons equipment such the helicopters and fighter jets as well as drones, with a latter items resulting in a new US penalty.
The previous week, James Cleverly, British Foreign Secretary, said that the Tehran regime, which has seen more than three months the civilian protests, had struck sordid deals with Moscow in a desperate attempt to survive. Iran’s foreign ministry said on Sunday in the statement it would not seek a permission from anyone to expand its tie with Russia.
Iran on Israel spy agency allegations
Iran foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said that cooperation between Iran and Russia in the various fields, including defense, has expanding within the framework of a common interests and is not against any third country.
Israel and Iran have for years engaged in a tussle. Israel has accused Iran of seeking to acquire a nuclear weapon, but Tehran denies it.
