BEIJING: Chinese envoy Zhai Jun will visit the Middle East next week to push for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict and peace talks between the warring parties.
Zhai will tour the Middle East next week to coordinate with different parties for a cease-fire, to ease the situation, protect civilians, and promote peace negotiations, state media reported on Sunday.
Saudi efforts for peace
The announcement comes a day after Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan urged China, in its capacity as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to work towards ensuring that the Council fulfills its responsibility of maintaining global peace and security.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke over the phone with Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi on Saturday.
During the call, the two top envoys emphasized the significance of stopping all forms of targeting civilians and the commitment of all conflicting parties to the international humanitarian law.
