Israel not Doing to Permit Aid, Fuel into Gaza: Washington

WASHINGTON: Israel must take more steps to permit fuel and other relief into the Gaza Strip, the United States (US) said on Tuesday as Israel’s brutal attack on Gaza intensified.

“The level of help that is getting in is not enough,” US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said. “It needs to increase, and we have made that clear to Israel.”

Earlier, on Monday, around 100 humanitarian aid trucks and 69,000 liters of fuel were provided to the Gaza Strip from Egypt, the UN said.

In a statement, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that this is well below the daily average of about 170 trucks and around 110,000 liters of fuel that had provided during the humanitarian pause that occurred from 24 to 30 November,”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also pressed Israel to increase the flow of aid and relief and to minimize civilian population harm in its attack on Gaza. Israeli army stormed southern Gaza’s city of Khan Younis on Tuesday, and hospitals in the region struggled to cope with scores of Palestinian wounded and dead. On Tuesday, a World Health Organization (WHO) official said the situation in Gaza was deteriorating by the hour.
