Gaza City: Israeli attacks killed at least 44 Palestinians, including eight aid seekers, across Gaza in the past 24 hours, the territory’s health ministry said on Saturday.
It said that among those killed were 20 Palestinians in Gaza City.
According to Civil Defence officials, an Israeli airstrike targeted a bakery, a nearby tent, and a group of civilians — including children — who were in the area at the time in the Nassr neighborhood.
More Palestinians die due to Israel’s starvation
At least 10 more Palestinians, including three children, have died from malnutrition due to the ongoing Israeli blockade of Gaza, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported on Saturday.
The ministry stated that these latest deaths bring the total number of fatalities from hunger-related causes since October 2023 to 332, including 124 children.
Famine has already been confirmed in Gaza Governorate and is expected to spread to Deir al Balah and Khan Younis governorates by the end of September, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a global hunger monitoring body.
Since the IPC’s declaration of famine in Gaza, 54 people — including nine children — have died from starvation, the ministry added.
Gaza death toll surges to 63,371
At least 63,371 people have been killed and 159,835 wounded since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023.
Since Israel broke the ceasefire on March 18, at least 11,240 people have been killed and 47,794 wounded.
UNRWA asks Israel to allow aid in Gaza
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) announced on Saturday that its warehouses in Egypt and Jordan are “stocked, ready to fill around 6,000 trucks” of humanitarian aid to Gaza, currently under blockade by Israel.
In a statement on the US social media company X, UNRWA stressed that “the Israeli Authorities’ ban on UNRWA’s humanitarian aid into #Gaza must be lifted” and reaffirmed that it “has the system in place to distribute aid safely and at scale.”
The agency said that its warehouses are prepared to dispatch thousands of trucks immediately if Israel allows the humanitarian convoys to enter Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need to permit “life-saving supplies via road.”

US Senate delegation arrives in Egypt
A delegation from the US Senate arrived at Egypt’s Al Arish Airport on Saturday ahead of a planned visit to the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, currently under siege by Israel.
“A delegation from the US Senate has arrived at Al Arish International Airport ahead of visiting the Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side and inspecting aid warehouses,” Egyptian state channel Al Qahira News reported without providing further details.
Red Cross rejects Israel’s mass Gaza evacuation plan
The head of the international Red Cross on Saturday condemned Israel’s plans for a mass evacuation of Gaza City ahead of a military takeover, insisting there was no way it could be done safely.
“It is impossible that a mass evacuation of Gaza City could ever be done in a way that is safe and dignified under the current conditions,” International Committee of the Red Cross president Mirjana Spoljaric said in a statement, describing the evacuation plan as “not only unfeasible but incomprehensible”.
Ireland seeks EU action against Israel
Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Simon Harris, warned on Saturday that the European Union risks damaging its credibility if it fails to take “concrete action” against Israel over what he described as the “horrific genocide” in Gaza.
Speaking ahead of an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Copenhagen, Harris stressed the urgency of the situation.
He emphasized that it is “critically important for the EU to act now and implement immediate, tangible measures in response to Israel’s actions, which violate its human rights obligations under the EU-Israel Association Agreement.”
“We need to maximise the pressure, to bring about a ceasefire, and to end the famine,” he told reporters.
“Let me be very clear: words of condemnation are not enough when it comes to the horrific genocide that is underway in Gaza.”
