NABLUS, Palestinian Territories: A Palestinian freedom fighter was shot dead by Israeli forces on Thursday in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian officials and a deceased relative said, as the army claimed “counterterrorism activity” in the region.
The Palestinian Health Ministry announced that Amir Ahmed Mohammed Khalifa, 27, was murdered during a raid on Zawata, a town west of Nablus.
It said, “He was shot in the head and back with two bullets fired by the Israeli occupation soldiers during their aggression on the town of Zawata.”
In Nablus, in the northern West Bank, the Israeli army reported that a suspect had started firing at soldiers early on Thursday. The army stated, “Soldiers responded with live fire and hits were identified,” without mentioning whether the event in which Khalifa was killed also occurred.
Khalifa was “wanted by Israeli forces for two years and had refused to surrender,” a family member who asked to remain anonymous for security reasons told AFP. Khalifa resided in the Ain Beit Ilma refugee camp close to Nablus. —AFP/APP
