ISLAMABAD: The Israeli forces on Thursday demolished two Palestinian-owned homes in the north of the occupied West Bank, citing the lack of building permits.

Murad Shteiwi, a member of the Popular Resistance Committee in the northern West Bank told Anadolu Agency that Israeli troops and bulldozers entered the village of Duma and tore down two houses, claiming they had been built without proper permits.

He said that Palestinians in Duma clashed with Israeli troops. The occupation fired tear gas shells and rubber-coated bullets at the protesters.

Demolition notices to dozens of homes

Shteiwi added that Israeli authorities have sent demolition notices to dozens of homes in Duma.

The village is located in Area C, which accounts for 60 percent of the total area of occupied West Bank. Under the 1995 Oslo Accords, the West Bank was divided into 3 areas: A, B, and C.

Israel prohibits Palestinians from building in Area C, which it seeks to annex. It frequently demolishes Palestinian homes on the pretext of lack of building permits, especially in Area C.
