JERUSALEM: Israel’s armed forces reported on Tuesday morning that a deputy Israeli commander lost his life in confrontations along the northern border with Lebanon.
The military disclosed the identity of the deputy commander as Alim Abdallah, though the precise details surrounding his demise were not provided.
Members of the Islamic Jihad group, based in Lebanon, infiltrated into Israeli territory, prompting retaliatory shelling by Israeli forces into southern Lebanon. In response, Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group confirmed the loss of five of its members and launched a counterattack, unleashing a barrage of rockets and mortars at two Israeli army bases situated along the border.
