RIYADH: The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) has marked its 10th anniversary, commemorating a decade of coordinated institutional efforts to strengthen security and combat terrorism and extremism across the globe.

Founded in 2015 at the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and launched under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the coalition was established to unite the Muslim world in confronting transnational terrorist threats, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

A significant milestone was reached in 2023, when Minister of Defence Prince Khalid bin Salman assumed the role of chairman of the coalition’s Council of Ministers of Defence. His appointment marked the beginning of a new phase characterised by enhanced oversight, renewed strategic direction and increased operational momentum.

In February 2024, Prince Khalid further reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment by announcing SAR100 million in financial support, along with the provision of 46 specialised training scholarships for member states.

Over the past decade, the IMCTC has implemented a comprehensive operational framework centred on four core pillars: intellectual engagement, media, countering the financing of terrorism, and military cooperation. This integrated approach has benefited thousands of trainees across member countries.

IMCTC Secretary-General Major General Mohammed Al-Moghedi described the anniversary as a pivotal moment to assess achievements and chart future priorities.

He emphasised that, backed by the Kingdom’s continued support, the coalition will expand initiatives focused on sustainability, knowledge transfer and strengthened partnerships, with the aim of enhancing security, promoting peace and reinforcing the values of moderation.
