ISLAMABAD: Australian cricketer Matthew Short has withdrawn from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 after failing to recover from a quad injury.

Short, who was bought for $220,000, is known for his explosive batting in T20 cricket and had a standout season in the Big Bash League (BBL 14).

His absence is a big setback for Islamabad United, who had hoped he would add power and depth to their batting lineup.

During the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Short struggled with movement and had to retire hurt after scoring 20 off 15 balls.

Australia’s captain Steven Smith had already hinted he wouldn’t be fit for the semi-final, and now it’s confirmed he won’t play in the PSL either.

Short’s T20 career has been impressive. He has a strike rate close to 150 and has played in top leagues like the BBL and IPL.

In the IPL, he scored 117 runs in six matches, with a strike rate of over 127, and also contributed with the ball.

Meanwhile, Islamabad United has started PSL 10 strongly, winning all three of their matches under captain Shadab Khan.

They currently top the points table and will aim to continue their winning streak, even without Short, by leaning on their strong core players and smart strategies.
