ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has summoned Afghanistan’s chargé d’affaires in Islamabad and strongly condemned unprovoked cross-border shelling by Afghan border security forces, local media reported on Friday.
In a statement, Pakistan’s foreign office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said Afghanistan’s chargé d’affaires was summoned to the ministry of foreign affairs. She said that Islamabad’s strong condemnation over recent unprovoked cross-border shelling by Afghan Border Forces was conveyed.
Islamabad-Kabul Ties
Pakistan reiterated to Afghanistan that the protection of civilians remained the responsibility of the two sides and that such incidents must be prevented in future.

The spokesperson said that it was agreed to utilize an established institutional process over the matter. It added Islamabad remained committed to maintaining good relations with Kabul” and described quiet borders as “intrinsic” to that purpose.
At least six people were killed and more than a dozen injured on Sunday in unprovoked fire from Afghan security forces near the border town of Chaman in Balochistan, Pakistan.
